Is IoT a ‘wanna-have’ or a must-have? More and more devices are connected to the Internet. Within a household often several devices have a connection: smartphone, tablet, TV, computers and thermostats for instance. This technology phenomenon is called the Internet of Things (IoT). Every day processing becomes more intelligent and every day communication becomes more informative than ever. On the one hand there are devices that can detect better, communicate better and be used for useful applications. On the other hand, small sensors can be added to virtually any object. These developments combined provide real time data that can be turned into useful information in ways we have never imagined before. Is your organisation ready?

What digital transformation is about
Digital Transformation, what is it about? As supposed to what most people think, digital transformation is not a technology issue. It’s not about cleaning up IT legacy; this transformation is necessary to reshape every aspect of a business so it can deal with the volatile digital developments. Digital is deeply rooted; in culture, governance, operations, workforce skills, product usage, distribution and so on. Most of all, the customer experience is at the heart of digital transformation. How do you keep up with changing business environments brought about by the changing customer demand and the accelerating technology developments?
#HotOrNot: 5 domains beacons will cause disruption in
As many people know, I’m intrigued by innovation and disruption. Therefore I’m curious about everything that has even the slightest opportunity to disrupt. So, while monitoring all kinds of trends, I often try to figure out what new stuff might do or change in different industries. But also what issues they will raise. This past year I’ve been checking out bluetooth beacon technology, just to see what it does in several markets. Although the figure of devises that have bluetooth enabled by default is only 40% in America and 43% in the Netherlands, an interference with market adoption, beacon technology could be a future game changer.

Hot or not: the gig economy on the rise
In this second edition of ‘hot or not’ I’m discussing the gig economy. I was triggered by a few articles I stumbled upon last week. Although gig economy and portfolio working is still immature, it could be the future of labour market. Technology is empowering an on demand talent market, the millennial generation is leaving behind the nine-to-five workday and financial pressure is causing organisations to think differently about resource allocation. An interesting development I find both promising and challenging at the same time for the future of the labour market and HR.
Digital transformation in education: from challenge to opportunity
Technology is changing the way society communicates, collaborates and learns. Digital transformation is not a fleeting trend or hype. It is a societal revolution that causes unavoidable change for any industry. Organisations often see the digital challenge as a struggle to keep up with the latest technology. An unfortunate mindset, because it is much more than that. The digital transformation in the current information revolution is actually a wave of changes that enable people to grow and adjust. For the education branch it is an opportunity to improve learning methods, attract bright minds and meet learners’ expectations.
